A major flood in western Queensland is expected to reach its peak throughout this evening and into tomorrow.

Macintyre River at Boggabilla is slowly easing, and it is expected to remain steady around its current peak in Goondiwindi as the level sits at 12.39 metres.

Days of flooding has seen residents evacuated, trucks delayed, and some houses water damaged.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the river levels at Goondiwindi is remaining steady and is expected to fall short of the 2011 peak of 10.6 metres.
