Former Australian Test cricket captain Tim Paine is taking indefinite leave from the game.

Cricket Tasmania released a statement saying they had been advised Mr Paine was stepping back from the sport.

“Following discussions over the last 24 hours, Tim Paine has advised Cricket Tasmania he will be taking a leave of absence from all forms of cricket for the foreseeable future,” the statement said.

The news was confirmed by Mr Paine’s manager James Henderson, who said the former skipper was taking a break to focus on his mental health.
