The prospect of Saule Omarova becoming America’s head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency looks bleak, after Axios reported that five moderate Democrats have told the White House they will not support her nomination.

All Republicans oppose Ms Omarova’s nomination to become the head of the Treasury Department’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

That means all 50 Senate Democrats had to support her nomination.

Axios reported that in a phone call to the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday, Jon Tester, Mark Warner and Kyrsten Sinema all confirmed they will oppose the nomination.

Democrats John Hickenlooper and Mark Kelly also oppose the nomination, meaning the prospect of her being confirmed is nigh on impossible.
