US President Joe Biden has welcomed the guilty verdict of the three men who gunned down Ahmaud Arbery but says there is still a long way to go in the fight for racial justice.

Travis McMichael, his father Gregory and neighbour William Bryan shot dead the 25-year-old while he was on a run in February 2020.

CNN reporter Darryl Forges says the guilty verdict has been met with widespread celebration.

“We saw hundreds of people come out here, all in preparation for the verdict and as soon as the verdicts were read out – guilty, guilty, guilty on many – everyone here just started screaming, clapping, crying and coming together,” he told Sky News Australia.

“They believe it was about time for justice for Ahmaud Arbery and we saw a lot of reaction, not only here outside but also in the courtroom.”
