The New South Wales COVID committee is preparing to meet to discuss changes to the state’s mask rules beyond December 15.
Restrictions are expected to lift once the 95 per cent double dose vaccine rate is reached around mid-December.
Mask measures could however be extended in a bid to prevent coronavirus outbreaks over Christmas.
In New South Wales, masks are required indoors with the exception of offices and during exercise.
Health authorities are wary of easing rules ahead of a busy retail period.
