An aviation expert is calling New Zealand’s decision to shut Australians out of the country until April 2022 a complete blow for the trans-Tasman travel sector.

Prior to the pandemic, New Zealand ranked as Australia’s top travel destination with 1.5 million people making the trip each year.

Australian Federation of Travel Agents CEO Dean Long says the country is at risk of losing its sizeable share of the market as travellers book other destinations in its place.

While New Zealanders will be able to travel to Australia on January 17, Australians will be barred entry until April 30.
