The National Disability Insurance Scheme is “one of the reasons” why tax bills are so high, and government is so hard, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.

Ms Credlin said the scheme was originally intended for the approximately 400,000 Australians living with a serious disability, not the estimated four million with some disability.

“There’s been understandable pressure to broaden eligibility on the grounds of fairness,” she said.

“As those on the scheme could get tens, or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding a year.

“In practice, it was always going to be a struggle to keep costs down, quality up, and eligibility under control.”
