Nationals Deputy leader David Littleproud has criticised the “sideline commentary” over the religious discrimination bill, calling for interlocutors to display more maturity in debating the proposed laws.

“I think we all just need to take a deep breath on this,” he told Sky News Australia.

“I don’t think it’s wise to have this sideline commentary until the prime minister can clearly outline when he, in fact, introduces the bill himself – such is the importance of this that I think Australians can calmly work through this.

“That’s what we should do as political leaders, create the environment for mature conversation about this.”
