Buckingham Palace has issued a rare statement condemning the BBC’s new documentary about the Royal Family, accusing the network of publishing “overblown and unfounded claims”.
The new docuseries titled ‘The Princes and The Press’ focused on Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship and the brothers’ very different approaches when it comes to the media.
The special also investigated whether negative stories about the Royal Family were based on information from people connected to other royal households.
The end of the program featured a statement given to the BBC by Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Kensington Palace which showed the family were not happy with the latest documentary.
“A free, responsible and open press is of vital importance to a healthy democracy,” the statement read.
“However, too often it is overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources that are presented as facts and it is disappointing when anyone, including the BBC, gives them credibility.”
