New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet has confirmed COVID-19 restrictions will be eased from December 15 despite a reported health ministry push to extend mask wearing into the holiday season.

Wearing masks indoors will no longer be compulsory on transport, retail or business venues from that date, which is also when the state’s unvaccinated will be granted extra freedoms.

The state will ease rules once its 95 per cent fully vaccinated target is reached or on December 15, whichever comes first.

Mr Perrottet says New South Wales is “getting back on track” after prolonged lockdowns and mask rules are not here to stay.
