ACU’s Senior Research Fellow Dr Kevin Donnelly says the American Medical Association’s new book called a ‘Guide to Language, Narrative, and Concepts’ is “doing a lot of harm to the language”.

Mr Donnelly said the guide harms language by “controlling” how people think about words and the meanings behind them.

“If you look at the Hippocratic Oath doctors are supposed to live by, it talks about doing no harm to patients; I mean I taught English for many years and what they’re now doing, they’re doing a lot of harm to the language,” Mr Donnelly told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“A thought can corrupt language, but language can also corrupt thought.

“When you can control the language, you control how people think and you make it easier, frankly, for people to be coerced and intimidated.

“It’s this wacky world of political correctness, of being woke.”
