Woodside and its partner BHP Petroleum have approved the development of the Scarborough and Pluto Train 2 gas projects off the West Australian Coast, according to Sky News business reporter Edward Boyd.

The $16.5 billion project will be Australia’s biggest gas development in a decade.

The Scarborough gas field situated 1,600 kilometres north of Perth off the town of Karratha, which is where Pluto Train 2 will be located.

Pluto Train 2 will be an LNG plant, which will convert the gas into liquefied natural gas before being sold to clients, most of whom are in north Asia.

The first lot of cargo from this is due to be shipped in 2026.
