Street Side Medics founder Dr Daniel Nour won the 2022 NSW Young Australian of the Year award, after founding the not-for-profit, GP-led mobile medical service for people experiencing homelessness in August 2020.

Street Side Medics is a van set up as a mobile medical centre with the latest medical equipment, and partners with existing homeless shelters and food services.

“We provide our medical services free of charge without a need for Medicare and without a need for ID, and it’s essentially opportunistic medicine at its best,” Dr Nour told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“What I identified was a number of challenging barriers that limited access to healthcare and my idea was to alleviate those barriers by taking a medical service to them, where they all congregate with the common denominator being food.”

Mr Nour said patients who attend his van medical service can not only get a check-up by a doctor, but they can also get their vitals done, blood test, and they have the “capabilities of getting blood test results for some very important blood tests within a few minutes” like for detection of diabetes.
