Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman says a conscience vote should be permitted for the Morrison government’s religious freedom bill.

It comes as a number of moderate Liberals raised concerns about the legislation during a party room meeting on Tuesday.

“I’m not surprised that there are people within the Coalition party room who are expressing concerns and this is testament to the mishandling of the issue,” Mr Newman told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
