Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman says the Australian War Memorial should not receive access to the Brereton Report until it has been “tested in court”.

The Australian War Memorial asked for access to the unredacted Afghanistan war crimes report to allow them to create a complete and accurate account of the conflict, but their request has been denied.

“It is … based on a lot of careful information gathering by a very distinguished writer and probably team, but it’s still just a report,” Mr Newman told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“It has to be tested in court in terms of those allegations.”
