Tallesha Taylor, a year 11 student, says she is targeted in school for expressing her conservative views.
“A few teachers have definitely targeted me directly for my views, like even if I didn’t directly say that I was a conservative, as soon as I questioned anything that they were teaching me, they target me straight away on my views,” Tallesha said.
She said students have also done the same.
“As soon as I question their views or political stances, automatically I’m a conspiracy theorist, or … a conservative, or I’m not woke and I’m not progressive when that’s not true,” she said.
“If I label myself as a conservative, there’s a lot of things assumed about me and about my views, and I’m not racist or homophobic in any way, but simply because I support non-left views or non-left political parties, I’m degraded for that.”
