Black Friday will be a welcome time for many retailers trying to recover after months of lockdowns, but there will also be challenges they must get through.

Black Friday begins next week and is followed by Cyber Monday and then the lead up to Christmas, after which will be Boxing Day sales.

Customers have returned quickly to stores, with Westfield saying foot traffic is increasing each weekend.

Colliers Head of Retail Michael Bate says the cost of landing goods in Australia, particularly out of the Asia Pacific region, is “simply going to have to be passed on”.

International shipping costs remain elevated, with supply chains under COVID-induced pressure.

This in turn has helped inflation hit a six-year high in Australia, and a 31-year high in the United States.

Some goods have increased in price in the past year, and retailers must make critical decisions this Christmas as to what to put on sale.
