Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes says Labor figures are engaging in an “out-and-out lie” by claiming the Morrison government is planning to force pensioners onto the cashless debit card system.

“This isn’t a fear campaign, this is an out-and-out lie and it needs to be called out for what it is,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith.

“Not only does the Morrison government have no intention of putting pensioners on the cashless debit card, there was actually an amendment put out by Senator Rex Patrick that ensured pensioners could not be forced to go on the cashless debit card.

“Now that amendment was supported by obviously Senator Patrick and the Coalition. Labor and the Greens voted against it.”
