The United Nations is calling for China to prove missing tennis star Peng Shuai is safe.

The UN Human Rights office says it’s important that the wellbeing of the athlete is confirmed publicly.

No one has seen or heard from the 35 year old since she accused the former vice-premier of the Communist Party of sexual assault.

Chinese state media released an email – allegedly from the athlete – in which it says she’s resting at home and that the allegations are false.

The chief executive of the Women’s Tennis Association, Steve Simon, has threatened to boycott the country, if it fails to account for Peng’s whereabouts and investigate her claims.
