The Duchess of Sussex, who has been married to Prince Harry for more than three years, lifted the lid on the early days of their relationship in a sit-down interview with Ellen DeGeneres for the farewell season of her talk-show.
“He came to see me in Toronto and our friends and his cousin Eugenie, and now her husband Jack, they came as well and the four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple,” Ms Markle remembered.
DeGeneres asked the former Suits actress, “And they had no idea it was the two of you?”
Ms Markle replied: “No, it was a post-apocalypse theme so we had all this very bizarre costuming on and we were able to just sort of have one final fun night out.”
The Duchess of Sussex said she stayed at home for this year’s Halloween celebration with Prince Harry and their two children Archie, two and five-month-old Lilibet.
She also revealed the family saw DeGeneres as part of the spooky season.
“We saw you guys which was great but we just wanted to do something fun for the kids and then the kids were just not into it at all,” Ms Markle said.
“Archie was a dinosaur for maybe five minutes, not even five minutes.”

Lilibet, who was born in June this year, was a “cute” skunk.
Ms Markle’s surprise appearance on The Ellen Show came nine months after she dropped bombshells during a sit-down chat with Oprah Winfrey.
A sneak-peak of Ms Markle in the studio with DeGeneres was released ahead of the full interview going to air in the US on Thursday.
The teaser was captioned: “A lot has changed since the last time Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, was on the Warner Brothers lot.”
The Duchess, who donned a white blouse, black trousers and heels, was all smiles as she recalled being a struggling actress who would visit the lot for auditions.

“The security guards here would always say ‘break a leg, we hope you get it’ so the drive in today was very different,” Ms Markle told DeGeneres.
The 40-year-old also remembered her “very old” Ford Explorer Sport she would drive to auditions.
“At a certain point the key stopped working on the driver’s side so you couldn’t get yourself through the door so after auditions I would park at the back of the parking lot and I would open the trunk and climb in and then pull it put shut behind me and crawl over all my seats,” she said.
The interview is part of Season 19 of The Ellen Show, “Ellen’s Farewell Season”.
DeGeneres announced in May the long-running show would end after she was last year accused of creating a “toxic” workplace.
Ms Markle, who moved to the US with Prince Harry and son Archie at the beginning of 2020, made bombshell allegations about the royal family in her interview with Winfrey, which aired back in March.
She alleged a member of the family expressed “concerns” about Archie’s skin colour ahead of his birth and the former Suits actress said she was suicidal during her time in duty but was denied help from the palace.
The sit-down chat with DeGeneres also marks Ms Markle’s first high-profile public interview since giving birth to daughter Lilibet in June.
