The Australian Federal Police have joined the search for the remains of toddler William Tyrrell on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.

AFP officers arrived in Kendall where they will conduct drone surveillance throughout the day at the big search sites, primarily at the one about one kilometre from where Tyrrell was last seen.

Officers and the RFS have been using chainsaws and machinery to cut through the thick, dense bushland where an excavator has begun digging up that land.
