China has not taken too kindly to Liberal Senator James Paterson briefing European politicians about how Australia has stood up to Beijing.
China’s embassy complained to Australia’s parliament about Mr Paterson’s “hostility”.
Liberal Senator James Paterson told Sky News Australia it’s an ironic way to complain if you’re being accused of intervening into someone else’s democracy.
“I actually thought my observations were fairly mild and factual,” he said.
“Perhaps what concerned the Chinese embassy the most is that the European parliament is taking Australia’s advice very seriously.”
