ACU Senior Research Fellow Dr Kevin Donnelly says the Australian curriculum has been “dumbed down” to a level where Year 12 students have to be told what words mean in an English exam.

It comes after translations for the words “latent” and “foisted” were provided for Year 12 students sitting their HSC exams.

“We’ve dumbed down the curriculum in Australia over the last 20-30 years,” Dr Donnelly told Sky News host Paul Murray.

“We’ve got to a stage now when in English, an exam, we have to tell native speakers what words mean.”
