Australians are starting to see “some policy” to back up the federal government’s net zero target and plan, according to Oxford University Economic Recovery Project’s Professor Brian O’Callaghan.

It comes as the federal government hopes to see at least 1.7 million electric cars hit the road by 2030 through a Future Fuels strategy.

The Morrison government also hopes to accelerate the rollout of 50,000 charging stations to encourage more people to purchase the vehicle.

“Targets are helpful, sure, but what we really need is action and I don’t think that without incentivising the kinds of behaviours that we want, we’re going to really achieve any type of change,” Mr O’Callaghan told Sky News Australia.
