Former prime minister Paul Keating “effectively ran a defence of China” with his address to the National Press Club, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“It was bizarre and dangerous stuff,” Mr Kenny said.
“The former PM knew exactly what he wanted to say, and that was that China is a benign rising power, and Australia should accommodate Beijing’s aspirations rather than join with the US, Japan, and India in seeking strategically to contain it.
“Worryingly, Keating was even pushing for Australia to wipe its hands of Taiwan.
“This was a bizarre bomb-throwing exercise from Paul Keating.”
