The Australian has reported Labor MPs Josh Burns and Anne Aly are urging Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese among others to go more ambitious for their 2030 target than the 35 per cent projected by the federal government.
Shadow Assistant Minister for Climate Change Pat Conroy says his party “already indicated” they would up their 2030 emission reduction targets at the next election.
“I’ve got very little confidence they’ll achieve the 35 per cent,” Mr Conroy told Sky News Australia.
“Let’s be frank about it, Australia’s reduction have fallen by 20 per cent since 2005; 14 percentage points of that 20 per cent occurred when Labor was last in government.
“This government has delivered zero emissions reductions, so I still don’t have confidence they’ll get to 26 per cent or 35 per cent.
