Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says Tim Smith needs to give “serious consideration” to the words of his leader Matthew Guy – who advised the embattled Liberal MP not to contest the next Victorian state election.

It comes after Mr Smith crashed his car while driving with a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit.

He was told by his party leader, Matthew Guy, not to contest at the next election following the incident.

Mr Frydenberg slammed Mr Smith’s actions as “unacceptable” and “dangerous,” and it was good no one was injured in the crash.

“He needs to take some time for some soul searching and to reflect on his own future career,” Mr Frydenberg told Sky News Australia.

“That’s something he should be given the space over the coming week or so leading up to the time pre-selections are due in to reflect on that.”
