Struggling border businesses will receive a much-needed boost after the Queensland Government launched $1 million worth of tourism vouchers ahead of the summer holiday period.

As part of the scheme, 18,000 vouchers will be made available to residents, allowing people to obtain up to five per person.

The voucher plan, in particular, targets the southern end of the Gold Coast who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic with current border restrictions wiping out up to 40 per cent of customer base.

“Now, people can use those vouchers going into the Christmas season,” Small Business Minister Di Farmer said.

“They’re open from today to the end of January so businesses who are open are still doing it tough, they’re still playing catchup and they’re going to need to have a bumper Christmas holiday season.”
