The Business Council of Australia’s CEO Jennifer Westacott has defended the BCA’s late adoption of an ambitious climate target, saying things are “very, very different since 2018 and 2019”.
In October, the BCA publicly backed a 50 per cent emissions reduction by 2030, despite in 2018 labelling Labor’s target of 45 per cent by 2030 as “economy wrecking”.
Ms Westacott said while she understands the criticism of the BCA, she doesn’t “accept it”.
“I think a lot has changed since then, and I’ve gone through that,” she told Sky News Australia.
“The evidence has changed; the facts have changed and I think we did two years of work of – what can you actually do?”
