Police converged on a unit at about 11:20 on Tuesday morning on Punt Road, Gladesville after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident. 
At that time a 38-year-old man inside the unit – who was armed with two knives – allegedly attacked a 26-year-old probationary constable. 
The officer suffered lacerations to the back of the head and a dislocated shoulder and was taken to the Royal North Shore hospital for treatment.

New South Wales Police confirmed the 38-year-old was arrested shortly after without incident with the help of police negotiators, who arrived on the scene around midday, and has been taken to Ryde Police Station. 
Investigations into the incident are continuing. 
Motorists had been advised to avoid the area, with traffic diversions set up on Punt Road.
