A plurality of Democratic voters want their party to run another candidate in place of Joe Biden during the 2024 presidential election, according to a recent NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist poll.

The poll found 44 per cent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents want a new nominee to run for the White House, while 36 per cent want the party to stick with Mr Biden in 2024.

It also showed 20 per cent of respondents said they were not sure if the Democrats should nominate someone else.

The result does not augur well for President Biden, who won Democratic nomination in 2020 by promising to unify his party.
