Ms Berejiklian on Monday confirmed she had disclosed her close, personal relationship with Mr Maguire to her staffer, Sarah Cruickshank, after the former Member for Wagga Wagga appeared before the ICAC on July 13, 2018.
“Politically she had a right to know,” Ms Berejiklian told the ICAC.
Probed as to whether Ms Cruickshank provided her with any advice, Ms Berejiklian said she had been “very strong with the view that at the end of the day I’m the Premier, at the end of the day I know what I have or haven’t done and I know what my position”.
ICAC Assistant Commissioner had to ‘rein in’ Berejiklian during inquiry
“For me it was more making sure she was advised of what the situation was.”
The former premier revealed Ms Cruickshank did advise her to “stop having anything more to do with him [Mr Maguire]”.
“I did not take that bit of advice obviously,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“But her advice to me was don’t have anything more to do with him.”
