The British government has criticised France, after threats were made as part of a post-Brexit fishing row.

UK Environment Secretary George Eustace said it was “unacceptable” – and added that “two can play at that game”.

The French ambassador to the UK has been ordered to a meeting in London, to explain those threats and why one UK trawler has been detained in a French port.

France is threatening to close ports and toughen checks for getting seafood into the European Union.

If ports are closed, British fishers will not be allowed to purchase or sell seafood until they are reopened.
