Curtin University’s Nigel Marks says he agrees with former chief scientist Alan Finkel, who says nuclear must be considered if Australia wants low emissions technology.

Mr Marks says he thinks Australia’s history is holding the country back from re-embracing nuclear energy, as coal and gas are abundant resources and large parts of the economy.

“In the past we’ve always been able to use that to be able to generate our electricity and so we just kept pumping out CO2 on the global scale, on a per capita basis,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“If we’re going to try and join the rest of the world then if we don’t consider nuclear we’ve got very few good options.”
