GT Communications’ Gemma Tognini says Australia must have honest conversations about the technology required to reach net zero because she does not believe in “plunging people into energy poverty for the sake of ideology”.

The Australian is reporting former chief scientist Alan Finkel says the export opportunity presented by hydrogen is “almost beyond imagining” as he backs the Prime Minister’s technology based approach to reach net zero by 2050.

“I think it’s an important conversation for Australia because we’ve been stumbling along this road for such a long time because of the politics of it,” she said.

Ms Tognini argued conversations about emissions free technology also need to include nuclear energy as a “genuine seriously considered option”.
