Sky News Queensland Editor Peter Gleeson says a discussion over a potential Palaszczuk government vaccine mandate for lifesavers is a “storm in a teacup”.
There is significant concern among the public and lifesaving community over a lack of stance from the state surf lifesaving body on COVID-19 vaccination.
Mr Gleeson said a vaccine mandate would coincide “with this mandatory regime that Queensland Health have brought in, saying that if you’re a nurse and you’re not fully vaccinated, you won’t have a job unless you’re granted a special exemption”.
“The lifesavers are there to do a job, they do a brilliant job, and they’re outstanding at what they do,” he said.
“I’d rather take the risk, if I was washed out and between the flags – and a lifesaver came along, I’m not going to be asking that lifesaver if he’s double vaxxed or if he’s been tested for COVID.”
