It is “vital that we acknowledge and accept” Christianity as an important underpinning of western societies like Australia, according to ‘Christianity is Good for Us’ author Dr Kevin Donnelly.

“If you look at our literature, our art, our music, even our architecture, it goes back to that Christian underpinning,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“Whether it’s Dante or the Sistine Chapel or Chartres Cathedral, Christianity is something there that we can’t ignore.”

Dr Donnelly said he was upset by the fact NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has recently been criticised for being a Christian.

“I think that’s the danger here, that we’re undermining and attacking the very belief system which is so vital.”
