Sydneysiders will still be banned from travelling to the state’s regional areas on Monday even after New South Wales hits its 80 per cent vaccine threshold this weekend.

The reopening roadmap had previously promised regional travel once the vaccination milestone was reached.

It’s understood senior ministers decided to delay the move after a meeting of the state’s COVID-19 and economic recovery committee yesterday.

They cited low inoculation rates in some rural areas as the main concern.

The changes – which are due to be announced today – have received a mixed reaction from residents with travel expected to be delayed for at least another week.

Premier Dominic Perrottet has acknowledged COVID-19 cases will rise once unlimited interstate travel resumes.
