The Australian Capital Territory is taking its first steps out of lockdown on Friday, nine weeks after the capital recorded its first case of the COVID Delta strain.

A number of restrictions have been eased, including allowing hairdressers and beauty salons to reopen with a maximum of five clients at a time.

Residents will also be able to welcome up to five visitors into their home with outdoor gatherings increased to 25 people.

Licensed venues can have 25 people inside and 50 outside and will be subject to the one person per foursquare metre rule.

Funeral caps have been increased to 50 people, while 25 people are able to attend a wedding.

Non-essential retailers will predominantly be limited to click and collect.
