Melbourne’s lockdown could be lifted as early as next week as the city remains on track to reach its vaccination targets ahead of schedule.

Victoria was originally meant to reach the 70 per cent double dose vaccination on October 26, however, this is now forecast for October 22.

The state could see an announcement as early as Friday.

It comes as the state recorded 1,571 cases on Wednesday with hospitalisations on the rise and expected to peak over the next few weeks.
