Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews says it is an “appalling” situation in Queensland with their harsh border closure, locking out stranded Queenslanders in some states.
“I’ve been appealing to the Premier to do all that she can to reopen those borders domestically as soon as she possibly can,” Ms Andrews told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“What is so difficult for us is that there is no certainty, so there’s no commitments coming from the Queensland state Labor government at all as to what their intentions are and that’s not good enough.
“We’ve been shut out of our own state, which is just an appalling set of circumstances.
“The Queensland Premier needs to ensure that she is going down the path of reopening Queensland’s borders.”
Ms Andrews expressed her concerns if Ms Palaszczuk does not provide “clear direction” on the state’s reopening then “we are putting at risk yet another holiday period because there will be insufficient time for airlines to lock in for flights that they need”.
