Liberal MP Julian Leeser says Australia “needs immigration” to aid businesses which are experiencing labour shortages and struggling to find skilled workers.

“At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, half a million temporary visa holders left Australia, many of those people were skilled migrants,” Mr Leeser told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“It’s expected in this financial year, another 77,000 temporary visa holders will leave Australia.

Mr Leeser said he thinks Australia will see migration resuming “shortly” due to the national plan getting the country to the point of reopening.
