Corinna Economic Advisory economist Saul Eslake says Australia could see a “net rebound” in employment by November despite the unemployment rate rising to 4.6 per cent in September.

“I would think by November, we could have seen a net rebound in employment nationally of over 250,000 and the effect on employment rate coming back down to say six or seven per cent,” Mr Eslake told Sky News Australia.

“Although these numbers themselves show declines in employment and a slight uptick in the unemployment rate, I think looking through them, the situation is probably as good as can be expected.”

Mr Eslake said “we should see a big rebound” in employment with the unemployment rate dropping back to the May figures in November when Victoria should be out of lockdown.
