Liberal Senator James McGrath has called for a “serious inquiry” into the role of public broadcasting and the ABC.

“One of my disappointments with our government, my government, is we have communications ministers who are also captured by the ABC,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

Mr McGrath said he thinks the ABC can “comfortably” move to a subscription model for their platform.

“In the last 40 years there has been no serious reform,” he said.

“The ABC sees itself as perfect, and sees itself as beyond reform.

“That is so dangerous.”
