A 31-year-old man who breached hotel quarantine after arriving in Tasmania from New South Wales has tested positive for COVID-19, health authorities have confirmed.

The man was placed into hotel quarantine on upon arrival from Hobart but his room was found to be empty when security checked on him on Tuesday.

He was found at a home in Hobart’s northern suburbs later that afternoon and subsequently tested for COVID-19.

The positive case has been fined for arriving in the state without an appropriate pass and for breaching hotel quarantine.
