Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has held a virtual G20 leaders’ summit to discuss the looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Since the Taliban took control on August 15 the country’s economy has all but collapsed – as banks run out of cash and food prices soar.

The European Union has pledged a total of $1.2 billion in emergency aid.

It follows a commitment from the United States to provide humanitarian aid to the country, after two days of talks in Doha.
