Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Barnaby Joyce basically wants the plan to consider rather than “have all these different plans from MPs and ministers on what you think should happen in exchange for a commitment to net-zero”.

“Some confidence in the parliament that Nationals will say yes to these targets at next week’s party room meetings, despite the determination of some MPs and ministers to put caveats in place, and if that happens, it seems Scott Morrison will travel to the COP26 conference in Glasgow,” Mr Clennell said.

“The NSW international border rules might assist with that. The PM talking up a climate deal with the Nationals upon leaving quarantine at the Lodge this morning.”
