Energy economist Alan Moran says it would be “very expensive” to reach net zero by 2050.

Mr Moran said the only option to do it would be nuclear, which would be “twice the cost of the coal and gas we’ve got at the present time.”

“It really does mean a total refurbishment of the network,” Mr Moran told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“These shifts in production will always be painful, and will be quite disastrous in some cases for some economies.”
