Pressure is mounting on Scott Morrison to come up with a more ambitious climate change target and a net zero emissions target by 2050 ahead of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“The Business Council of Australia is the latest to lobby, for something they opposed at the last election – a medium term 2030 emissions reduction target – double that signed up to in the Paris agreement – over 45 per cent,” Mr Clennell said.

“There will be a Nationals party room meeting on Monday where it’s my understanding the first discussions around the net zero emissions proposal will take place.

“Being discussed by Scott Morrison and Barnaby Joyce is a more ambitious 2030 or 2035 target on the way to net zero but not one as ambitious as the one the BCA are proposing.”
