The Australian’s Washington correspondent Adam Creighton says airport wait times will balloon to “up to eight hours” due to COVID-19 requirements.
The International Air Transport Association warned at the annual general meeting the restrictions could cause calamity unless radically simplified by government.
The conference was attended by “most of the world’s top CEOs from airlines,” Mr Creighton told Sky News Australia.
“With all of these Covid rules around the world for flying, whether it’s vaccination tests, pre-Covid tests, post-flight tests, restrictions on destinations and so forth, the wait time at both ends of the flight would increase.
Mr Creighton said the wait times would go from “1.5 hours to about six or eight hours – unless governments radically simplify their restrictions”.
